The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for political parties to submit the lists and personal particulars of their candidates for the 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections.
The commission announced that the deadline, which was originally scheduled to end on Saturday, July 11, 2026, has now been extended to midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
According to a press release issued on Sunday by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, the extension followed an appeal by the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) on behalf of political parties that were unable to complete the upload of their candidates’ details within the stipulated timeframe.
Haruna said the decision reflects the commission’s commitment to ensuring inclusivity while operating within the provisions of the law.
“The extension underscores the Commission’s commitment to ensuring inclusivity in its practices, while acting within the ambit of the law,” the statement read.
INEC urged all political parties to take advantage of the additional time to upload the names and personal particulars of their candidates before the new deadline expires.
The commission warned that submissions must be completed by midnight on Tuesday, July 14, as no further extension was indicated in the statement.
