The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says collection of newly issued Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) will commence on October 9, as the Commission intensifies preparations for the 2027 General Election.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash O. Amupitan, SAN, disclosed this on Monday in Kaduna during the Commission’s North-West Zonal Interactive Meeting with Staff and Readiness Assessment for the 2027 General Election.
Amupitan said three phases of Continuous Voter Registration had produced 10,772,421 new registrations, subject to Automated Biometric Identification System verification.
He directed officials to eliminate PVC distribution bottlenecks at the Local Government Area level to ensure eligible citizens were not disenfranchised by logistical challenges.
The INEC chairman also urged staff to close operational gaps, maintain neutrality and strengthen professionalism ahead of the elections, stressing that the success of the electoral process would ultimately be determined at the grassroots.
“The true success of any election is not decided solely in the meeting rooms of our headquarters in Abuja. It is decided in the field,” he said.
He added that the Commission was refining its voter verification, result transmission and Result Management Systems, including the recently introduced eEC8A, while implementing a “Zero-Failure” approach to logistics and training of ad-hoc personnel.
