The Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, says it has suspended an Assistant Superintendent II (ASI 2), Okpravero C. Ufuoma indefinitely for begging a traveler for financial assistance at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos, Nigeria.
The suspension follows a trending video on social media showing the officer unknowingly captured by a traveler while begging him for money.
It was gathered that the traveler used a camera-enabled eyeglasses, to capture the officer.
Reacting, Comptroller General of NIS, Kemi Nana Nandap, described the officer’s conduct as disgraceful, adding that he has been suspended indefinitely, pending the outcome of disciplinary procedures
She said, “We wish to inform the public that the conduct of the officer, identified as Okpravero C. Ufuoma, an Assistant Superintendent of Immigration II (ASI 2) at Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, does not reflect the values and ethics of professionalism upheld by the NIS.
“As a result, the officer has been indefinitely suspended pending the outcome of disciplinary procedures, which are in the accordance with the law and Public Service Rules.”
