Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has declared that he is ready to risk his life to ensure that votes count in next year’s presidential election.
Obi made the declaration during a town hall meeting organised by the NDC governorship candidate in Rivers State, Dumo Lulu-Briggs, in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
He attended the meeting alongside his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Obi said the forthcoming election would not be business as usual, stressing that he and his team would resist any attempt to undermine the credibility of the polls.
According to him, Nigerians have had enough of electoral malpractice and must be allowed to freely choose their leaders.
He said, “I Am Ready to Die. Our votes this time must count. We’ve had enough of this nonsense.”
Obi added that anyone seeking political office must come before the people, listen to their concerns and answer their questions.
He stressed that leadership comes with accountability, saying, “Leadership cannot be absolved. If you want to lead, you answer to the people.”
