About one hundred and fifty persons in Rivers State have lost their lives due to illegal oil refining-related violence and disasters between January 2020 and August 2023, according to the the Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta, PIND.

PIND disclosed this in its Niger Delta Weekly Conflict Update report today.

It said illegal oil refining could increase tensions in communities and destroy the environment which could lead to soot pollution in the region.
