The Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Chief Hon. Charles Wobodo, has announced a temporary restriction on the operations of commercial motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, in Igwuruta community following rising security concerns and the recent killing of youth leader, Nchelem Festus.
The chairman said the decision was taken as part of urgent measures to address the persistent security challenges in the area and to prevent further breakdown of law and order.
According to the directive, the restriction will take effect from Thursday, February 12, 2026, and will run daily from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. for a period of one month.
Local authorities say the move is aimed at strengthening security monitoring and reducing the movement of suspected criminal elements who allegedly use motorcycles to operate within the community.
Residents have been urged to cooperate with security agencies and comply fully with the new order throughout the enforcement period.
