Former Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Chijioke Ihunwo, has declared his support for the candidates of the Rainbow Coalition and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for re-election.
Ihunwo, a prominent ally of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, said his decision was in line with the governor’s recent call for reconciliation, peace and political unity in the state.
Speaking on TVC’s Beyond the Headlines, Ihunwo said he was supporting the coalition based on Governor Fubara’s directive and his commitment to restoring peace in Rivers State.
The Rainbow Coalition, a political platform in Rivers State, is led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Ihunwo said Governor Fubara had declared that peace had returned to Rivers State and urged his supporters to align with the reconciliation process.
He said, “Our governor has said there is peace in Rivers State and that we need to move forward. If you really back him, you need to stand with him in the Rainbow Coalition. That is what we are doing to bring peace back to our state.”
Ihunwo’s declaration signals a fresh political alignment among Fubara’s allies ahead of the 2027 general elections.
