Staff of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education have been advised to treat students as kings and queens so that when they graduate, they would remember their alma mater.
The new Acting Vice-Chancellor of the institution Professor Okechuku Onuchuku gave this advise when he meet with staff during a familiarization visit to the St John’s Campus on Monday November 29, 2021.
The Vice-Chancellor who emphasized that students are the main reason why they have jobs in the university, noted that if they fail to treat them right, that they would be out of jobs.
He informed that he has benefited immensely from lecturer-student relationships because he created an atmosphere where students looked forward to being in his class. He enjoined lecturers to teach with greater level of confidence and to create a lively and conducive environment for them to enjoy their class.
Professor Onuchuku promised that under his watch management will ensure that all genuine requests are met and that as one who is determined to put smiles on the faces of people, he will do whatever it takes to motivate staff to put in their best. He also encouraged staff to feel free to come to him because nobody is an Island of knowledge adding that he would use the best brains in the system to better the institution.
While agreeing that the university needs more hands because of programme expansion, he stressed that he will look into the issues raised and identified gradually including the staffing needs of the campus.
The Vice Chancellor thanked God for life, strength and the opportunity to serve. He equally expressed gratitude to Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for finding him worthy to superintend over the affairs of the University.
The new Acting Vice Chancellor promised to ensure production of good quality students who will satisfy the employment needs of the State and Country.
In his welcome speech, the Head, St John’s campus Professor Levi Doe Kalagbor informed the new Acting Vice-Chancellor that the campus hosting many of the University programmes has poor staff strength as one of its greatest challenge.
He expressed optimism that the current embargo placed on employment would be lifted so that more hands can be employed and deployed to the campus to accommodate the manpower needs of the campus.
He prayed God to give him wisdom, knowledge and understanding to pilot the affairs of the university.In a vote of thanks, the Director Graduate School of Business, Professor Antonia Omehia thanked the Vice-Chancellor for meeting with staff, giving them a sense of belonging with his assurances and for inspecting facilities on ground She expressed hope that he would give the campus the much needed facelift that it deserves to compete favourably with others within and outside the state.
