The Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) has disbursed N350 million in scholarship grants to 500 Ogoni postgraduate students pursuing Master’s and PhD programmes.
The initiative is part of HYPREP’s strategic efforts to promote human capacity development and advance education in Ogoniland.
Under the scheme, 300 Master’s students received N500,000 each, while 200 PhD students received N1 million each.
The Project Coordinator of HYPREP, Professor Nenibarini Zabbey, charged the beneficiaries to explore the various research opportunities provided by the Ogoni Cleanup Programme to contribute to the project’s success and national development.
Zabbey urged the students to leverage their academic pursuits to develop solutions that would support environmental restoration and sustainable development in the region.
