Legal practitioner, Chetam Nwala, has raised the alarm over alleged threats to his life by individuals he claims are associated with Chief Emmanuel Nwaobilor.
Nwala, in a public statement, disclosed that he had received a series of threats, including a direct telephone call from Nwaobilor, which he said he recorded.
He said he had petitioned the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Commissioner of Police, urging them to take necessary measures to protect his life and ensure his safety.
The lawyer also named Chairman of Etche LGA, Hon. Chima Njoku, whom he said should be held responsible too if anything happened to him.
According to Nwala, the development is connected to a legal dispute in which he wants the parties involved to appear before the court and respond to a suit instituted against them.
He questioned why those he accused would allegedly resort to threats and intimidation rather than allow the judicial process to determine the matter.
Nwala maintained that he believed in the rule of law and would ensure that his clients respected and complied with the court’s verdict, regardless of the outcome.
He added that he would not abandon the legal process despite the alleged threats, stressing that the law remained the appropriate means of resolving disputes and addressing grievances.
The lawyer further vowed to remain committed to his campaign against alleged land grabbing in Etche and other forms of injustice, irrespective of those involved.
The individuals named in the statement had yet to react to the allegations as of the time of filing this report.
