Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has cautioned the Chief Medical Director of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, Prof. Henry Ugboma to stop politicalising the fight against COVID-19 in the State.
Wike in a state-wide broadcast today in Port Harcourt warned the CMD to stop what the governor described as rascally, irresponsible and ill-motivated utterances. He said, his government will not fail to deal with anyone spreading lies against the state government in the fight against the virus for cheap political gain.
Gov. Wike during the broadcast announced the total lockdown of Obio- Akpor and Port Harcourt Local Government Areas till further notice. He equally imposed a dusk to dawn curfew with effect from Thursday April 7, 2020. Wike further banned the gathering of more than two persons in the affected areas. He ordered security operatives to ensure compliance with his directives by arresting and prosecuting defaulters.
The governor noted that those who fail to obey the directives of the state government are the greatest threat the state is facing in curbing the spread of the virus. He also announced the setting up of a task force to ensure maximum compliance with the latest directive.
