The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba has commended the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike for building a Tactical Operations Unit for the Nigerian Police to support policing in the state.
Alkali Baba, who commissioned the project at Rumuepirikom in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area on Friday, said the centre will help in fighting and reducing crime to its barest minimum.
According to him, with the Operations Centre, Police officers do not need to patrol with vans to know what is going on, but would do so sitting in the confines of their offices.
He described officers working in Rivers state as the luckiest, for having a governor who supports the Police by providing the necessary equipment to work with.
The IGP also cautioned officers against human rights abuses and urged them to be professional in the discharge of their duties.
He, However, pledged one armoured carrier, two gun trucks, arms and ammunition to the Center.
Earlier, Gov. Wike commended the IGP for not intefering in Policing in the state unlike his predecessors.
He also warned the new commissioner of Police against the resurgence of crime in the state, adding that he would be held responsible for that.
