…Asks the community to cooperate with contractor.
Rivers State Governor, His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara has assured the delivery of quality standards on the ongoing reconstruction of Omoku-Egbema road project in Ogba Egbema Ndoni Local Government Area, being handled by Setraco Nigeria Limited.
Governor Fubara gave the assurance at the Government House, Port Harcourt while meeting with stakeholders, traditional rulers and opinion leaders from Ogba Egbema Ndoni Local Government Area on Saturday.
Sir Fubara said his administration decided to embark on the road project which was initiated by the previous administration because of its strategic economic importance to the people, noting that it will enhance the standards of living of the people when completed.
The governor who attested to the competence of Setraco in handling the project, cautioned against any act of sabotage and urged the commissioner for works to liase with the company and the community to resolve evolving differences to enable the project to commence in ernest.
“I know the reputation of Setraco, this is a job that I inherited, the contract award was revoked by the former administration and reawarded to Setraco. When I came, I felt that particular project should be revisited. Setraco has been awarded the job and we are not going out of that agreement”.
He said the sum of N5.2bn has been paid to the contractors out of the reviewed total contract sum of N7.2bn.
Governor Fubara thanked the people of Onelga for their overwhelming support in his election and urged them to cooperate with the contractors to ensure smooth delivery of the project.
On his part, the Oba of Ogba Land, His Eminence, King Nwachukwu Obuohna Obi, Eze Ogba 111 who led the delegation, said the protest of the people on the project was as a result of lack of proper communication and engagements between the company and the community.
The monarch thanked the governor for his intervention in the matter and his assurance on the delivery of standards in the road project, adding that the road was prone to damages because of heavy trucks that ply the route and pledged the continuous support of Onelga people to Governor Fubara’s administration.
Also speaking Bro, Felix Obua said the people’s demands to understand the nature of the contract was to protect government interest and ensure that the project is not compromised.
