The COVID-19 Taskforce in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State have demolished the goat meat market along Elele-Ahoada stretch of the East-West Road, today.
The chairman of the taskforce, Ikechukwu Ordu made the disclosure during a chat with journalists at the site of the demolished market. This is coming after the state governor warned traders to desist from selling along the road or face the full weight of the law. According to reports, the make-shift market was recently established by traders in the area due to the closure of markets across the state.
The coordinator of the demolition exercise stated that the act was in compliance with the directives of the state government as no form of illegality was carried out. He assured that the taskforce will never allow the traders use the area as market again.
Meanwhile, affected traders have called on the state government to consider them and reopen markets across the state. This is so they can go about their businesses to enable them cater for their needs.
