A little girl who had gone to fetch water with a truck escaped death yesterday, after she was hit by a waste truck suspected to be that of the Rivers State Waste Management Agency, RIWAMA.
The incident occurred at Abba street along the Iloabuchi axis of Diobu in Port Harcourt on Monday.
An eyewitness, a member of a local vigilante group in the area, in a chat with us, said the girl was hit by the vehicle while she was about crossing the road.
He blamed the bad section of the road for the incident, noting that the truck driver was trying to avoid the pot hole on the road, when he hit the girl.
He explained that the victim only sustained minor injuries, adding that she was taken a nearby chemist for treatment.
The vigilante personnel said, they had to intervene to avoid a break down of law and order.
He also said the driver took care of the girl’s treatment and apologised to her family members who were angered by the incident.
Efforts to speak to the driver of the vehicle proved abortive, as he refused to speak to us. They also prevented us from taking proper pictures of the incident.
