The Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) has extended the deadline for the ongoing collection of Permanent Voter’s Card. This was disclosed in a press release by the National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye on Thursday.
INEC says they are encouraged by the turnout of registered voters and the surge in the number of collected PVCs and is determined to ensure that registered voters has ample opportunity to collect their PVCs ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
At the end of it’s regular meeting on Thursday, the Commission resolved to extend the deadline by eight days. The collection at the ward level which was earlier scheduled to end on January 15th has been extended to January 22nd, 2023. Collection at the Local Government Area level will resume on Monday 23rd, January and end on Sunday 29th, January 2023.
Meanwhile, INEC says it is investigating allegations of extortion by officials in some of the registration centers and inducements by some voters to circumvent the processes in order to obtain their PVCs.
The Commission also revealed that it has printed over 13 million PVCs for all valid new registrants and applicants for transfer or replacement of cards.
