The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Rivers State Sector Command, has announced the deployment of personnel and logistics for its 2026 Easter special patrol operations aimed at ensuring safety on the roads during the festive period.
In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, CRC Doris Ebor, the Acting Sector Commander, DCC Iheanachor Ubele, said the operation will run from April 1 to April 8, 2026, covering major highways across the state.
Ubele explained that the initiative is part of the Corps’ statutory responsibility to promote safer road use, reduce traffic crashes, and ensure the free flow of traffic during the Easter celebrations, a period typically marked by increased vehicular movement.
He noted that the operation will feature heightened patrol visibility, strategic deployment of rescue teams, and intensified public enlightenment campaigns to educate motorists and other road users.
According to him, the command has mobilised operational assets, including ambulances, tow trucks, patrol vehicles, and motorbikes, to support 24-hour patrols along critical road corridors and ensure swift emergency response.
The sector commander attributed many road crashes to speeding, reckless driving, overloading, use of mobile phones while driving, and other traffic violations, warning motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations.
He also raised concern over a growing trend among some youths in the state who drive in convoys while overspeeding and engaging in dangerous driving, particularly within Port Harcourt metropolis. Ubele warned that such behaviour poses serious risks to lives and property and will attract legal sanctions.
The FRSC, he added, will collaborate with other security and emergency agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Fire Service, and the National Emergency Management Agency, to ensure effective traffic management and prompt response to incidents.
Motorists and other road users were urged to report emergencies to the FRSC through its toll-free number 122 or 0700-CALL-FRSC.
Ubele, while wishing Christians a peaceful and joyful Easter celebration, called for cooperation with traffic officials and reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to ensuring a safe motoring environment across Rivers State.
