MEDITATION SCRIPTURE: “Hereby perceive we the Love of God, because He laid down His life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren” (1 Jn.3:16)
READ: LUKE 15: 17-23
17 And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! 18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, 19 And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. 20 And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. 21 And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. 22 But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: 23 And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry:
I read the story of a young father, whose love for his son can serve as a weak demonstration of the love of God described in this verse of the scripture. It fell on a day that this young man took his son to school. As they got to the school gate, he stooped down, looked into his boy’s eyes and said to him, I will always be there for you no matter what. This little boy walked into his class; work for the day began, but very soon the weather changed, and there was a terrible earthquake. The school building collapsed and submerged all the pupils. The father of the boy got the news and rushed back to his son’s school. On getting there, the whole school compound was reduced to rubbles and other parents were littered all over the place weeping profusely, some calling the names of their children. This man managed to identify the particular area where his son’s classroom was located.
Once there, he began to dig the rubbles, beckoning on other parents to join him; but they tried to discourage him, telling him that the kids were dead already. He kept digging until evening and other parents began to leave dropping flowers to bid their kids goodbye forever. As he continued to dig in the dark, he heard a faint voice calling out “father”, it was his son. He dug more until he could see the hand of his little boy, he held him and pulled him out of the rubble, but the little boy said, “Dad, we are not leaving yet, I have nine of my friends in there. I told them to hang on that you will surely come for me. Father and son set on to work, until all nine kids were rescued. The father’s love does not give up on his own. Though in a far country, the father of the prodigal son was still hoping, and believing that someday his son would realize his mistakes and return back to the warm embrace of his ever- loving father. The Father’s love has made salvation available for all who will believe. All you need to do is to stretch your hands and receive it. Never take God’s love for granted because it has an expiry date, cash into it while you may.
