Fresh Manna 6 September
MEDITATION SCRIPTURE: “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: fear God, and keep His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.” (Eccl. 12:13)
READ: 1 SAM. 12:2-4
Amnon was so distressed over his sister Tamar that he became sick; for she was a virgin. And it was improper for Amnon to do anything to her. 3. But Amnon had a friend whose name was Jonadab the son of Shimeah, David’s brother. Now Jonadab was a very crafty man. 4. And he said to him, “Why are you, the king’s son, becoming thinner day after day? Will you not tell me?”
Amnon said to him, “I love Tamar, my brother Absalom’s sister.”
It is the heart desire and prayer of every parent to have responsible children. Responsibility in a child is not a function of size, but it’s reflected in the child’s ability to understand the wishes of his parents and the level of commitment to fulfill them. A responsible son is one who cashes into every available opportunity to make his parents proud. Having a sense of responsibility simply means knowing what is required of you in every area of commitment and acting accordingly. This brings us back to our focal scripture for today. God, our Father, created us in His image; after His likeness and Glory. Our daily duty or responsibility is to seek His praise and fulfill His purpose. Unfortunately, man in his rebellious nature, pursues selfish interests: living in wickedness and all kinds of perversion.
Whatever your pursuits and achievements in life, if you neglect the purpose of God for your existence, Heaven sees you as an irresponsible son. In the fourth chapter of Revelations, the eleventh verse, this point was stressed. “For thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created” (Rev.4:11).
Thank God for all the laurels you have won, the money you have made, the properties you acquired. Thank God for your successful career, the influence you wield, in politics, business, and other fields of endeavour. I rejoice with you for your good home, beautiful or handsome spouse. Thank God for your wonderful children and all the beautiful things of life that you are exposed to. If these are all you are living for, then I am sorry to disappoint you by stating that Heaven calls you irresponsible. Solomon called all the aforementioned vanity. The true sense of a man’s responsibility is discovering God’s purpose for his life in Christ and pursuing it to the end.
TURNING POINT: The true sense of a man’s responsibility is discovering God’s purpose for his life in Christ and pursuing it to the end.
PRAYER POINT: LORD, help me to discover Your purpose for my life and live to fulfill it.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: PROV.1,2; 1COR.12
