MEDITATION SCRIPTURE: “By him therefore let us offer a sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.” (Heb.13:15).
READ: ACT 16:23-25
23 And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely: 24 Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks. 25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.
Offering to the Lord the sacrifice of praise as we are commanded to do in our focal scripture is connected to our priestly ministry as children of God. The book of first peter said, “But ye are choosing generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people that ye must show forth the praise of him who has called you out of darkness into his marvelous light (1Pt.2:9).
In the book of revelation, John the beloved saw the picture more clearly so he wrote, “he has gathered us into his Kingdom, and made us priests of God his father. Give to him everlasting glory, he reigns forever. (Rev. 1:6 TLB). The first responsibility of a priest is his ministry to the deity that he has been chosen.
No priest can effectively minster to people without first ministering to the deity he represents. The sacrifice of praise unto God should be our morning and evening sacrifice. Genuine praise involves the totality of the believer acknowledgement of God and His works. Why a lot of Christian don’t maintain a good praise life is because of ignorant of what praise really means.
Some think that we praise and worship God only in acknowledgement of His works. And that is why when miracles, breakthroughs and blessings are not forthcoming the praises dry up. Who God is should be our initial motivation for praise and worship and not what He does.
TURNING POINT: Who God is should be our initial motivation for praise and worship and not what He does.
PRAYER POINT: Dear Lord, set my heart on fire for praise and worship.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1CHRON,28:29; JN.11:47-57
