MEDITATION SCRIPTURE: “Commit thy ways unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.” (Ps.37:5)
READ: PHIL.2:5-11
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
The activities of the body are controlled by the disposition of the mind. A sober mind produces sober thoughts and actions. To understand what it means to have the mind of Christ, we have to look at His lifestyle while on earth. He fulfilled the prophecy of the scripture “he will not cry out or shout, he will not publicize himself in the streets, a crushed reed he will not break, a dim wick he will not extinguish, he will faithfully make just decrees (Isa.42:2-3).
In all His dealing, Jesus exercised self-control in His words and actions. He was loving, accommodation and compassionate. There was no iota of pride or vain glory in His life. He worked with the approval of the Father and never promoted any selfish interest. Having the mind of Christ therefore means living as Christ lived. Remember, we said earlier that the disposition of the mind controls the activities of the body. Therefore, the scriptures talked about the renewal of the mind, that we may prove what is that good, holy and acceptable will of God (Rom.12:2). Our journey in this realm of soberness and goodness begins with the new birth. After our conversion, we are expected to grow in grace as we renew our mind daily with the Word of God. Christianity is Christ likeness, not a religion. You are not a genuine Christian until you surrender yourself wholly to the Holy Spirit for transformation and impartation of the mind of Christ.
TURNING POINT: Christianity is Christ likeness, not a religion.
PRAYER POINT: Lord, transformed me to be like You.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: EZRA. 1,2; JN.19:23-42.
