Former Spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, Ogbonna Nwuke has condemned the invasion of the Abuja residence of Justice, Mary Odili by security operatives.
Nwuke, in a statement yesterday, said the situation is worrisome and clearly shows that there are people in the country who are opposed to the freedom of the judiciary.
He urged Rivers people to resist attempts by some individuals no matter how highly placed to intimidate their sons and daughters serving the nation at different levels.
He also called on relevant authorities to unravel the faces of those who carried out the attack, adding that it is shocking masterminds of the shameful act are still walking free.
His statement reads,
How can we as a country explain that masterminds of the shameful invasion of the residence of a female justice of the Supreme Court are still walking free?
How can we explain to the world that people are free in our dear country to storm residences of serving judges who are responsible for interpreting the law at will?
The situation is worrisome. We hope that the system would unravel the faces of those who chose on Friday night to pay a visit to the home of Justice Mary Odili.
We salute the Nigerian people for reacting the way they have. Democracy is truly under threat and Nigerians cannot allow efforts made over the years to build strong democratic institutions to go to waste.
We see the invasion of her residence as emerging evidence that there are people in this country who are opposed to the freedom of the judiciary, especially the right of serving judicial officials to deal with matters of great public interest that are brought before them, without fear or favour.
