The Federal Government allocated N9.74 billion for the procurement and distribution of food items to address the food crisis in 2024, according to data from BudgIT’s GovSpend platform, a civic-tech organization promoting transparency and accountability.
It said the funds were primarily used to purchase staple food items, including rice, beans, maize, and gari. The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security led the initiative, disbursing payments to contractors for the emergency supply of palliatives to federal constituencies nationwide.
Key transactions included the supply of rice, beans, and gari, aimed at reducing hunger in vulnerable communities affected by the crisis.
