The Federal Government of Nigeria has reacted to the country’s inclusion on the US blacklist of countries that engages in religious freedom violation.
The US, in a statement by its Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo listed Nigeria as one of such countries that violates religious freedom.
Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed in a swift reaction on behalf of the Federal Government dismissed the claims, stating that the country does not have a policy of religious persecution.
“Nigeria does not engage in religious freedom violation, neither does it have a policy of religious persecution. Victims of insecurity and terrorism in the country are adherents of Christianity, Islam and other religions,” he said.
Lai, equally noted that Nigeria as a nation protects religious freedom jealously as enshrined in its laws and do not condole any infringements in this regard from any quarters.
