The Federal Government has announced Friday as a public holiday in observance of this year’s Democracy Day.
The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Magdalene Ajani.
Tunji-Ojo described June 12 as a significant date in Nigeria’s democratic journey, noting that it reflects the bravery, determination, and sacrifices of Nigerians who championed the struggle for democratic rule.
The minister also reiterated the Federal Government’s dedication to upholding democratic principles, including the rule of law, accountability, transparency, and inclusive governance.
