FG Blasts Wike Over Comments on COVID-19 Grant

The Federal Government of Nigeria has blasted Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, over his comments that it is politicising the fight against Coronavirus in the country.

The Governor, had in a live broadcast yesterday, April 5 2020, berated the FG, over its failure to assist the state, which according to him is the oil and gas hub of the nation, in the fight against the virus.

In a swift reaction, Ajuri Ngalale, Senior Special Assistant to the President, today April 6 2020, reprimanded the governor for making such statements. “The claim by Wike is false,  he is only trying to blame the FG, for his knee jerk reaction to the reported case in the state. He stated

The FG had earlier supported the Lagos State Government with a grant of N10 billion naira to help fight the virus which has killed 5 persons in the country so far,  according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

Ngalale equally stated that without the request of the state government, the FG is currently building isolation centres in the state to help fight the coronavirus pandemic.

The index case in the state, a 19 year old model have so far tested negative and is expected to be discharged soon.

The number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the country, currently stands at 238, with Lagos having the highest number of cases, according to the NCDC.
