The Association of Farmers and Food Processors in Rivers State has revealed the reason behind the hike in food prices and other products in the state.
President of the group, Chisom Dike in a statement said the hike is as a result of huge sums of money they pay to security operatives, LG officials and vigilante groups while moving food on the road.
He alleged that they are being extorted on the road on a daily basis by different groups who claim that the monies are “Road Tax.”
He also said after such payments they are left with no option than to add little amounts to the products to be able to make profits.
Dike appealed to the government to wade into the matter as they are suffering a lot.
