TEXT: HEBREWS 9:11-15
MEMORY VERSE: “Not by the blood of goats and calves, but by His own blood He entered once for all into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption.” Hebrews 9:12 KJV
0 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted lace ”
Glory be to our Father God, who dwells in heaven. He so loves us that He had to sacrifice His only Begotten Son, that we may be cleansed and forgiven (John 3:16). Christ is the ultimate sacrifice.
Good things came with Jesus. He brought a spiritual tabernacle, as distinct from the physical tabernacle of the OldTestament. He brought the Church, which is the community of those who have come into a covenant relationship with the Father. He brought the all sufficient sacrifice of His blood offering, in order to continually cleanse our sins (Acts20:28; Eph. 1:7, Col. 1:14, 1 John 1:7-9). He brought the hope of eternal life to those who will come to God through Him (Hebrews 6:18-19).
Contrary to the yearly offering of animal sacrifices under the old order, His sacrifice for the sins of men was made once and for all time. In other words, there was only one offering, and the whole case of sin and cleansing were settled. Hisatoning sacrifice was so sufficient that He did not have to offer Himself repeatedly. Just one time offering, and it was donefor all eternity.
1 John 1:7 asserts that the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses from all sin – on a permanent basis. This implies that, though animal blood could offer some relief, the sinner probably still lived with embattled conscience. But with the blood of Jesus, it became freedom forever – freedom from unclear conscience. Blessed be the Lord and Master Jesus Christ, Saviour of the human race.
- Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing power? Are you yet washed in the blood of the Lamb? Lay aside the garments that are stained with sin.
- Lord Jesus, King of Glory, sanctify and justify me through your shed redeeming blood at Calvary.
