TEXT: MATHEW 8:23-34
MEMORY VERSE: “And behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus. And when they saw Him, they begged Him to depart from their region” (Matthew 8:34 NKJV).
The people on the other side of the country of Gergesenes rejected our Lord, even after seeing the great miracle of deliverance He had done for the two demon-possessed men. They “they begged Him to depart from their region.”
There is something always wrong with the people on the other side. They are usually insensitive to the move of God’s demands, His word, and His commandments. They do not pay attention to the Holy Spirit; and do not listen or hear the voice of Jesus. They are usually rebellious.
When the Israelites were on the other side of Mount Horeb, they became complacent and forgot that they had not reached the Promised Land yet (Deut. 1:6-7). A little comfort in life makes many people become careless in their Christian race. They slip into the other side, and compromise their Christian belief.
Dathan, Abiram, and Korah were not on the side of the Lord. They rose up against Moses and Aaron and “… the ground under them split apart and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them, with their households and all Korah’s men and all their possessions. They went down alive into the grave, with everything they owned; the earth closed over them, and they perished and were gone from the community” (Num. 16:31-3 3NIV).
Let us be on the side of Jesus always. The people on the other side are one with the world, friends of the world, and therefore enemies of God (James 4:4); they are rebellious. Their end would be terrible at the judgement throne of God. Let us not be like them.
- Believe you are enemy to the world and live as such.
- Lord, help to hate sin, the world, and all its pleasures
