TEXT: JOEL 2:12-17
MEMORY VERSE: “Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly” Joel 2:15
The purpose of Joel’s book was to warn Judah of God’s impending judgment because of her sins and to urge the people to turn back to God. Joel made them know that God will judge all unrighteousness and disobedience – all accounts will be settled and the crooked made straight.
Consequently, God told the people to turn to Him while there was still time because time was running out and destruction would soon be upon them.
In their time, deep remorse was often shown by tearing one’s clothes. But God did not want their outward display of penitence without true inward repentance (1 Samuel 16:7; Matthew 23:1-36).
What is our lesson from this? Time is also running out for us. Because we do not know when our lives will end, we should turn to God now, while we can. Do not let anything hold you back from turning and continuing in God. Again, outward show of repentance without inward is not God’s standard. Be sure your attitude towards God is correct, not just outward actions.
The night is far spent, the day is at hand (Romans 13:12).
- Jesus is coming soon. Are you prepared?
- Lord, help me live above the challenges that may draw me back, in Jesus name.
