ESOCS Devotional 7 August
TEXT: GALATIANS 6: 7–18
MEMORY VERSE: “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” Galatians 6:7-9
The life we live is like a farm where a farmer plants seeds and in due season reaps the fruits when they are mature. In this life, the world and all in it is the farmland. The farmer is the man and the seeds are the actions we take or refuse to take. Paul shows us by this that what we do or do not do will in time come back to us as good rewards or as bad rewards.
Many times people act in ways that are inconsiderate of others and sometimes out rightly to the detriment of other people. Sometimes again people neglect certain things that should be given due attention, keep quiet when they should speak, refuse to act when they could have acted. A lot of the times it will be because they are not directly affected. St. Paul teaches us that whatever you see and turn a blind eye, no matter how distant it appears, will come back to affect you. And whatever you do against others will in time come back to haunt you. Sowing and reaping is a Spiritual law that the wise should give due attention.

How do you live? What are the things you do or refuse to do? In what side of the good and bad divide do your actions fall? St. Paul here teaches us to be careful how we live, to be careful what we do, to be deliberate in choosing our actions and inactions, to strive to do good always, show love to people and keep away from evil acts, knowing that by the things we do we define our future. He sums it up in these words
“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.”
CHALLENGES
- Have you done good to someone today?
- Are there things in your life today that you can trace to the things you did yesterday?
PRAYER POINT:
- Gracious father, teach me to love others. Guide my heart to think only that which is good. May I by my actions always be a blessing to others. Amen
