MEMORY VERSE: “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing, therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live.” Deuteronomy 30:19 KJV
TEXT: DEUTERONOMY 30:11-20 (KJV)
For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not hidden from thee, neither is it far off.
12 It is not in heaven, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?
13 Neither is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?
14 But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.
15 See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil;
16 In that I command thee this day to love the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the Lord thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it.
17 But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them;
18 I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish, and that ye shall not prolong your days upon the land, whither thou passest over Jordan to go to possess it.
19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:
20 That thou mayest love the Lord thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.

One major thing God did with man was to create him as a free moral agent; implying that man was given the right of decision making in life. Thus, we all have a choice in whatever matter that is being presented. This power of choice however, is not without a caveat. It is not expressly standing alone. Therefore, a proper understanding of the operation and application of choices is what makes one stand out in life and even become more powerful. We need to realize that the power of choice is the strongest power on earth, and the greatest power God has given to man. All of life is built around choices. Where you are now is the product of the choices you made yesterday and where you will be tomorrow will be determined by the choices you make today.
Your choices determine your chances in life. By way of definition, choice is an act of choosing between two or more possibilities. It is the act of making decisions amidst a given set of alternatives. This is the position God put man into according to our text. The choice for one is the choice against the other. To align with one is to sideline the other. Hence, total caution must be applied before any choice is made.
Interestingly, God our Father who placed the alternatives for us has a perfect counsel which is, that we choose life. In life, you have blessings, favour, good health and success. In choosing life, you invariably signed in for peace and preservation. Your choice for life automatically breaks the yoke of untimely death and guarantees longevity for your generation.
Your choice for life is an alignment into submission and committed to the will and word of God per time. This message therefore is a wakeup call for all to make the right choices today, having understood the multiple adverse and regretful effects of making the wrong choice. For anyone going through a state of confusion at the moment as regards the choice to make in academics, career, business, finance, relationship, marriage, ministry, destiny and life, allow God to give you a clear direction so that you don’t end up living in regrets.
- Allow God’s word and will to prevail in all matters.
- Never make choices by environmental factors nor hastily.
- Prayerfully go for your choices and seek counsel where possible.
- Father, deliver me from every form of wrong choice-making, grant me the grace to always make the right choice in life, in Jesus Name, Amen.
