TEXT: EZEKIEL 33:10-20
MEMORY VERSE: “Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live, turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?” (Ezekiel 33:11 KJV).
‘Sinners turn why will ye die? God your saviour asks you why, God who did your souls retrieve, Died Himself that ye might live, Will you let Him die in vain? Crucify the Lord again? Why ye ransom’d sinners why? Will you slight His grace and die? Will you cross His love and die? Will you grieve your God and die? Why will you resolve to die?’ Questions upon questions posed by our Holy Hymn Book 30, demanding that we give it a very deep thought.
Speaking in our text, God confirms His personality as the Supreme, Almighty and Eternal One; stating that He has no delight in the death of the wicked. The implication being that to die wicked is to die unpleasurable. For “Precious in the sight of the LORD are the death of his saints” (Psalm 116:15). It means that anytime someone dies a wicked fellow, heaven is never happy. No wonder God in His loving nature recommends that the wicked turns from his wicked ways and receive life. Wickedness here refers to all forms of sinfulness, immortality, criminality, ungodliness, and unrighteousness. Yes! God is not pleased with the death of a liar, fornicator, adulterer, thief or murderer. God does not take pleasure when someone dies as an idol worshipper, a cultist, an unforgiver, a hater, and trouble maker. It is disgusting to God when an evil man dies. Here is the passionate plea “…turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways …” God truly desires that we turn and repent from our evil ways so that we can live.
- Sinfulness is a display of thanklessness and ingratitude to God, repent today.
- Lord, I ask for your forgiveness as I genuinely repent from all my sins today.
