ESOCS Devotional 4 June
TEXT: JOHN 4:22-54
MEMORY VERSE: “But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.” John 4:23 KJV
One of the core purposes of human existence on earth is worship to God. It is this understanding that made Lucifer as the master worshipper in heaven to invade the worship atmosphere, capture the worshippers, and adulterate the worship system and songs upon his fall to the earth. Consequently, there is the abundance of fake worshippers in our generation today. People who worship with their lips but their hearts are far from the One they claim to be worshipping.
Thus, there is a great disconnect between the worshipper, the worship, and the One the worship is addressed to, resulting in unproductiveness in our worship. The abundance of the false worshippers has moved God into serious search of real worshippers “… for the Father seeketh such to worship him.” (John 4:23). It is very unfortunate that despite the millions of worshippers in church across the globe, and many parading as ministers and tittle holders, God is desperately looking for real worshippers. Could it be, beloved in Christ, that while we are deeply engulfed in worship, God is busy looking for another set of worshippers that are real? May God have mercy upon us. ESOCS Devotional 4 June

However, the good news is, to get qualified for the category of worshippers God is looking for, God recommends two principles: “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:23).
(a) Principle of High Spirituality: It takes spirituality to worship in the spirit the one who is a spirit. It is practically impossible to exist in the flesh and worship effectively the one who is a spirit. “Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God” (Rom. 8:7-8). Carnality is a major attack on our real worship to God. Carnal songs, dance steps, appearances, thoughts are wrongdoings eating up our spiritual buoyancy in the place of worship.
(b) Principle of Truth: The beauty of worship is in the true reflection of the worshipper. The songs are true, the worshipper is true, the heart is true, and the expressions are true. We have seen those who weep in the place of worship but very deceptive. Their words are full of lies, fraudulent in their dealings with God and man. Learn to be truthful always if you must fit into the search of God for true worshippers.
BOTTOM LINE: Spiritual buoyancy and truthfulness are two major elements God is watching out for as we worship Him.
