TEXT: EPHESIANS 4:1-32
MEMORY VERSE: “There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” Ephesians 4:4-6
Our text in summary is an exhortation to unity, that is, unity of all believers because believers are one body in Christ. Too often, believers are separated because of minor differences in doctrine. But Paul here showed those areas where Christians must agree to attain true unity. When believers have unity of spirit, petty differences should never be allowed to dissolve that unity.
From our text, believers are one in Body (the fellowship of believers – the Church), Spirit (the Holy Spirit who activates the fellowship), Hope (the glorious future to which we are called), Lord (Christ to whom we all belong), Faith (our singular commitment to Christ), Baptism (the sign of entry into the Church) and God (who is our Father who keeps us for eternity).
Because of the importance of unity in the body of Christ, Jesus prayed that they (believers) may be one just as He and His Father are one (John 17:21-23).
Instead of believers concentrating on what divides them, they should remember what unites them. They should be one at their local assemblies, national and international, and at the interdenominational level, UNITED in love. One love keeps us together.
- Identify the causes of disunity in your local assembly and pray against them.
- Pray for the unity of all believers.
