TEXT: 2 KINGS 2:1-11
MEMORY VERSE: “I go to prepare a place for you, and if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself, that where I am, there ye may be also” (John 14:2-3).
Paul said, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing” (2 Tim 4:7-8).
Like Paul, let us plunge ourselves into that war, and this race, the Christian race. There is a prize we must win: the crown of righteousness. Let us make it our target. If we resolve to be diligent in following the Lord, we would attain to glory. The crown would not elude us.
The things we should do: embrace the gospel and seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness; kill the flesh and be dead to sin; reject the world and all that it offers; walk in the Spirit and shun carnality; set our heart and mind on the treasures in heaven and spending eternity with God.
If we close our ears and conscience against the world and open them to the Holy Spirit, He would lead us onto the paths of righteousness and holy living. We would have integrity of heart, purity of thoughts, and cleanliness of life in daily living. The world cannot corrupt us, for it cannot attract or distract us from focusing on the race for the kingdom of God.
If we live by godly standards, we would excel in that war; and we would emerge victorious, just like the triumphant saints. God was with them because they loved God with all their hearts. If we do the same thing, God will be with us in our time; for He cherishes people who incline their hearts towards Him. He takes them into His bosom, and keeps them safe there forever.
- Be diligent to prepare for the kingdom of God daily, and attain it.
- Lord, I pray to be there when the saints are shall to heaven.
