TEXT: JOHN 8:1-11
MEMORY VERSE: “She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.” John 8:11 KJV
0 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted place ”
8 But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
2 Now [a]early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him; and He sat down and taught them. 3 Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst, 4 they said to Him, “Teacher, [b]this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act. 5 Now [c]Moses, in the law, commanded us [d]that such should be stoned. But what do You [e]say?” 6 This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, [f]as though He did not hear.
7 So when they continued asking Him, He [g]raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.” 8 And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground. 9 Then those who heard it, being[h] convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. 10 When Jesus had raised Himself up [i]and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers [j]of yours? Has no one condemned you?”
11 She said, “No one, Lord.”
And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go [k]and sin no more.”
We live in a society that is full of all manner of people who pretend and lie. Truth is scarcely seen amongst men while others are swift to judge when they see a brother or a sister derailing. The degree of correctness of our Christianity should not only be seen in our spirit filled, tongue talking activities but also our ability to show love, compassion and mercy to a dying and broken life.
One of man’s greatest challenges is not the devil but the flesh. In 1 John 2:16, Apostle John makes a summary of all that is in this life: he called them the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life. This flesh that we wear has a way of frustrating our efforts continually. Unless we are assisted by the Spirit of God, plus our determination and discipline, we will perpetually remain slaves to the flesh.
It is this flesh that has given room to fornication, adultery, stealing, masturbation, covetousness, and all other manifestations of the flesh. Man was designed with conscience in him. So, each time we sin, it is the Holy Spirit who through our conscience convicts us of our wrong doings.
The devil will always come to accuse you of those wrongs you did but the good news is that Jesus is not giving up on you, not at all. It doesn’t matter the gravity of sin you have committed in time past or in present, there is still room in Jesus to accommodate you and help you leave above sin. The believer’s primary advantage over sin is not discipline (although it is needed in the equation) but primarily, you need the GRACE of God to leave above sin.
“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me” (2 Cor 12:9). For someone who is tired of that lifestyle that does not glorify God, I challenge you to cry out to God in prayers for supply of Grace to live above the realms of sin. Don’t give up on yourself; Jesus is still interested in you.
- Be rest assured that your alignment with Christ gives you a lifetime assurance.
- Dear Lord, I need your all-sufficient Grace to overcome sin and the works of darkness, in Jesus name.
