TEXT: AMOS 7:1-15
MEMORY VERSE: “When they had stripped the land clean, I cried out, “Sovereign Lord, forgive! How can Jacob survive? He is so small, so the Lord repented.” Amos 7:2-3a NIV
Amos had warned Israel of the judgment and wrath of God but they did not listen. He prayed with passion asking God to forgive and God did that by withdrawing His judgment. The intercessory prayer of an Elder is very important, for they watch over our souls; and the intercessory prayer of a righteous man avails much. So, it was the prayer of Amos that saved Israel from destruction
Daniel intervened in Daniel 9:3-23. Abraham pleaded with God not to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. The Bible encourages us to pray for anyone in trouble, instead of blaming the person or saying he/she is suffering because of the sins he/she committed. We are encouraged to pray for God’s intervention in the situation. The constant prayer by the church caused the release of Peter from prison by angels (Acts 12:7-8); and Moses saved Israel nation from the wrath of God (Num. 11:1-3).
Amos shows us what to do with impossible situations. He reminds us how powerful our prayers can be in the face of troubles. Sometimes, we seem to forget the type of pain we spare others by our prayers.
We should not faint in our intercessory prayers, for many have been saved.
