TEXT: JOHN 4:43-54
MEMORY VERSE: “For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his country” (John 4:44 KJV).
Anointing is that divine touch that transforms people and gives them extraordinary abilities. They accomplish great feats and excel in their undertakings. People honour them; and they are well appreciated and respected everywhere they go. However, that is not the case with such people within their immediate families or kindred.
It happened to our Lord; and so, it can happen to anyone else; for “… no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him” (John 13:16 NIV). When people disrespect you despite your status in life or because you are poor and have not attained any height in terms of social ranking, do not worry. The world did the same thing to your Lord; and He did not let it bother Him.
He concentrated on His mission on earth, which is to accomplish the Father’s will of saving mankind. We should do the same: avoid all things that would distract us from the kingdom race, so that we may win the eternal crown. That is the Father’s will for us. The Bible encourages us to “… serve the Lord without distraction” (1 Cor. 7:35 NKJV).
One thing is sure: the honour that people give is nothing. It is temporal. The honour we need is that which God gives, for it lasts forever. We can get it when we honour God with our life through living a sanctified lifestyle – a life of holiness and righteousness. He said, “… Those who honor me I will honor, but those who despise me will be disdained” (1Sam 2:30 NIV). Seek honour from the Lord. If people do not honour you, let it be.
- Engage in things that would bring glory and honour to God.
- Lord, help me to honour you in all things that I do.
