TEXT: MARK 1:1-11
MEMORY VERSE: ““As soon as Jesus came up out of the water, He saw heaven opening and the Spirit coming down on Him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, ‘You are My own dear Son. I AM pleased with You.’” Mark 1: 10-11 GNB
0 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted lace ”
The Bible teaches that there is only one God, who is the Creator of the world (Deut. 6:4). But a careful study of the scriptures will reveal to us that this one God exists or manifests in three persons. Sometimes, this is referred to as the three membership of the Godhead. Yes! There is only one God. He has always existed from of old, and will exist evenunto eternity. He presents Himself to us in three persons – The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit.
The Trinity Doctrine remains a mystery; but we believe the following notes, backed by some clear-cut Bible references, will help us to clarify this.
- The Trinity in creation: In Genesis 1:3, God the Father spoke. God the Son was the spoken word, (John 1:1).God the Holy Spirit moved upon the face of the waters (Gen. 1:2)
- The Trinity in incarnation: God the Father gave His only Son (John 3:16). God the Son was born in the world (Luke 2:11). God the Holy Spirit came upon Mary (Luke 1:35).
- The Trinity in redemption: God the Father accepted the Calvary sacrifice (Heb. 9:14). God the Son offered upHimself (Heb. 9:14). God the Holy Spirit gave the empowerment by which Jesus the Son offered Himself (Heb. 9:14).
- Trinity in the Salvation: God the Father receives and welcomes dead sinners (Luke 15:22). God the Son presented as the good shepherd, who went in search of the lost sheep, Luke 15:4). God the Holy Spirit seals thenew convert, with the seal of the Living God, (Eph. 1:13).
- The Trinity’s diverse roles in prayer: God the Father receives our requests (John 16:23). God the Son is the one in whose Name we pray (John 16:23). God the Holy Spirit directs our prayers (Rom. 8:26).
- Other aspects in which the Trinity acts in unity include: in communion and fellowship (Eph. 2:18, 2 Cor.5:19). Also in the regeneration process, (Luke 10:20, Eph. 1:7, John 3:3-6).
Let’s remain ever grateful to this TRIUNE GOD, for the never failing unity of purpose in the creation, redemption, regeneration and salvation of sinful humanity. May His Name be praised forever.
- If the Bible teaches of the existence of one God, would the Trinity Doctrine not be contradicting?
- Holy Spirit Divine, direct our minds and searching fingers through the scripture for deeper understanding.
