TEXT: EXODUS 18:13-27
MEMORY VERSE: “Thou wilt surely wear away, both thou, and this people that is with thee: for this thing is too heavy for thee; thou art not able to perform it alone” (Exodus 18:18 KJV)
Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law taught him the principle of delegation of duty. Moses was doing the work alone. The burden was too heavy but he did not know that he was wearing himself out gradually. The work was beginning to affect his health and strength badly.
Delegation of duty is an important factor in any organisation. It makes the work smooth and easy for everyone. One should not perform all the functions in an office or unit all alone. It is necessary to share responsibilities with others in the office, at home, at business places, in the church, and others.
It is God’s will that we should not work alone. He began it Himself. In the Holy Trinity, each of the Three Persons God has a responsibility. The angels, twenty-four elders, and the four living creatures have different works they do. The sun, moon, stars, wind, and water do different works. Our Lord Jesus delegate His work to the apostles and disciples too, and to us today (Luke 19:13).
There are gains in sharing responsibilities with others. It removes undue stress, makes the work less burdensome, and elongates one’s good health and life span. It creates room for more ideas and gives opportunity for people to use their potentials, gifts, or talents for the benefit of the organisation.
When we do the tasks alone, we deny ourselves and the organisation the benefits of these things, and more. Let us learn a lesson here!
- Think about when you worked alone and remember the effect it had on your health.
- Lord, I will include others in the work I do for you.
