TEXT: JOHN 3:16-21
MEMORY VERSE: “WhoeverbelievesinHimisnot condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he hasnot believed in the Name of God’s one and only Son.” John 3:18 NIV
0 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted lace ”
When the light of Jesus Christ came into the world, the lifestyle of those who loved darkness was revealed as sin (John 15:22-24; Gal. 5:19). Yes! Jesus came with a new life, which life came to re-lighten the life of men, and to drive away darkness – sin (John 1:4). This is the FOUNDATION of TRUTH. Moreover, from the account of 1 Corinthians 3:11, we are persuaded to believe that no one can lay any other foundation, other than that which is already laid, which is Christ Jesus. However, those who have given themselves over to walk contrary to God’s will are never comfortable with thetruth. They prefer, and love darkness because their ways are evil, (John 3:19). They reject God, by rejecting God’s moralstandards, and therefore plunge themselves into condemnation.
In contrast to those who love the ways of worldly living, there are those who love the truth of God’s word. Such persons seek moral guidance from that which is above. Therefore, they quickly accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour. These are no longer condemned, but rather become candidates of eternal life (John 3:16, 19).
This goes to explain that there are two classes of people. First are the worldly minded. The second are the godly minded. Worldly minded people seek to establish their own moral standards. But godly minded people seek standards ofbehaviour that are heavenly. This second category are identified to be of the TRUTH because they seek God’s directionin all they do (2 Thess. 2:10-12).
John 3:15 states that whoever believes in Christ, shall not perish, but have eternal life. A condition is thus expressed. It follows therefore that God’s grace on the Cross, through Jesus, must promote an obedient faith response (2 Cor. 4:15).Note also that, the faith response is the condition. Little wonder Hebrews 11:6 insists that without faith, it will beimpossible to please God (See also Matt. 7:21; James 2: 17-26).
Those who fail to respond to this free grace by obedient faith, will, for sure, perish. (2 Thess. 1:7-9). But those who do believe and respond accordingly, will have life, even unto eternity. Believe, therefore and be saved.
- And this is the condemnation, that light has come into the world and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds are evil. Check your deeds. Do they reflect light or darkness?
- Dear Light, lead me constantly on the right path that leads unto life everlasting.
