TEXT: MARK 5:21-43
MEMORY VERSE: “As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.” Mark 5:36 KJV
0 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted lace ”
The two great miracles recorded in our text are a confirmation of the extraordinary powers of Jesus Christ. These are the healing of the woman with the issue of blood; and then, the raising from dead of Jairus’ daughter. Without doubt, theauthority of Jesus to release the power of the supernatural, is a clear demonstration of His authority over the living and dead.
However, at the root of the possibility of such miracles, is the exercise of faith. The woman with the issue of blood had been in that condition for twelve years. Cure could not come from anywhere. Not even from the most experienceddoctors. But, through the application of
exceptional faith, she received instant healing (vs. 25-29). On the part of Jairus, Jesus simply asked Him to trust in Hispower to perform that which would bring him comfort (v 36).
In several cases of Jesus’ miracle healing and restoration, He would express satisfaction concerning their faith in thepower of God to heal. What actually is faith? For Christians, faith is a complete or absolute trust in God, and what He has done through Jesus Christ. What is wonderful about faith is the reward we receive, as a result of our total trust in the power of God. Hebrews 11:1 states that faith is the assurance of things hoped for, even when you’ve not seen it happen. It is the doubtless acceptance of things not seen, as real. In Psalms 46:10, God simply charged us to “Be still, and know that I AM God.” Romans 10:17 asserts that faith comes from hearing – hearing the word of God. And Jesus told Jairus, “Don’t be afraid, just believe” (v 36). And, with the response of Jairus in the right direction, it was done.Praise God!
It follows, therefore, if we must receive anything from God – including eternal life, we must have faith. Without faith, it is impossible to please God (Heb. 11:6). More so, Abraham believed God, it was credited to him as righteousness(Rom. 4:3).
- In Mark 9:23, Jesus taught that all things are possible to him that believe. Do you agree?
- Lord, I believe that Thou are the Christ. I believe you can do all things. Please help my doubts and fears.
