TEXT: MATTHEW 21:1-17
MEMORY VERSE: “Jesus entered the temple area and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He over-turned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves.” Mathew 21: 12 NIV.
Jesus expressed serious anger against those who had turned the house of God into a commercial center for their own selfish gains, declaring to them, “My house will be called a house of prayer but you are making it a den of robbers.” By this act, Jesus demonstrated to us that our business in churches of God should be genuine. This means that operators of the house in fraud, stealing, adultery, fornication, rumor mongering, and all other numerous nefarious activities are defilers of the temple.
The Bible teaches us to desist from all forms of religious malpractices in the ministry of Christ. We should discontinue all dirty politicking, favoritism, tribal sentiment, mal-administration in the church of God.
Just as Christ cleansed the temple, let us purge and cleanse ourselves of all anti-Christian practices. Expose all evils in the church for correction, no matter who is involved. Since our body is the temple of God, we should not be ruled by fleshly appetite but a desire to be in constant communion with God. The Scripture say, “Therefore let us live by the Spirit and we will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature” (Galatians 5:16-17).
