TEXT: AMOS 7: 1-17 KJV
MEMORY VERSE: “For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.” 1 Corinthians 11:31-32 KJV
In the Old Testament, God employed the agency of the prophets to warn Israel against God’s judgment. He reminded them that God was Lord over all creation and over all nations. Though the prophet pleaded for mercy, God’s judgments were already beginning with crop failures, fire devastation, and drought, and the soon arrival of hostile invaders, who would destroy the land and carry the people away into captivity. The day of God’s judgment would be a day of devastation and a time of wailing.
In today’s world, Amos’ warning applies to all people who participate in sins of immorality, social injustice, and other vices. According to 2 Corinthians 5:10, all must appear before the judgment seat of Christ, for “It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment” (Heb. 9:27). But if any man would judge himself and refrain from evil, he will not be judged (1 Cor. 11:31).

Several judgments have been put in place, including believer’s self-judgment, (1 Cor. 11:31), judgment of the nations (Matt. 25:32), judgment of Israel (Ezek. 20:30-44), judgment of angels (Jude 6), judgment of the wicked dead (Rev. 20:12). Child of God, flee from evil and escape the wrath of God.
CHALLENGES
- BELIEVER’S SELF-JUDGMENT (1 Cor. 11:31) – “For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.” Meditate on this scripture, in order to apply it to your Christian life.
PRAYER POINT
- The Book of Matthew 7:1 states thus, “Judge not, that ye be not judged.” Lord, give me the grace to refrain from passing judgment on others, but rather to judge and correct my own self. Amen.
