TEXT: AMOS 4: 1-13 KJV
MEMORY VERSE: “Woe unto thee, Chorazin! Woe unto thee Bethsaida! For if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.” Matthew 11:21 KJV
Jesus came that “they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10:10b). But man has continued to choose the path that leads to death and eternal damnation (Prov. 14:12), against God’s plan. In our text today, Prophet Amos focused on the rich women socialites of urban Samaria, who pressured their husbands into providing for them a luxurious lifestyle at the expense of the poor, who were perpetually exploited in order that these women will continue to enjoy great wealth in luxuriant living.
While Hosea prophesied against idolatry in Israel, Amos was prophesying against the social sins of the people, and crying out for social justice. The rich basking in luxury, had gained their wealth by oppression of the poor, dishonest business practices, bribery, and corruption. Because these people did not respond with repentance to the chastisement of the Lord, they should prepare to meet the God who would bring an end to Israel (vs. 9-12).

In like manner, Jesus is set, on the last day to gather all peoples before His judgment seat, and to consign the wicked to eternal damnation. Repent ye therefore and be spared of the evil days to come (Matt. 25:31-46).
CHALLENGES
- Mark 10:17-23 records shocking details of what a true believer needs to do to inherit eternal life, including love and care for the less privileged. Considering the disappointment of the rich young ruler in Mark 10:22, do you think you are qualified?
PRAYER POINT
- Luke 9:23 states, “… if anyone would come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross daily and come follow me.” Lord this is an hard saying, however, your grace alone is sufficient unto us. Amen.
