TEXT: ECCLESIASTES 1:1-10
MEMORY VERSE: “For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor. The Mighty God. The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6 KJV
This Isaiah’s inspiring message of hope came to the Jews in the midst of severe afflictions from their oppressors. Traditionally, Isaiah’s prophecies never ends on a note of despair; rather, would almost always include references to the future arrival of God’s redemptive agent, such as the The Branch (Is. 11:1, The Root (of David) (Is. 53:2; Rev. 5:5), The Prince of Peace (Is. 9:6), The Righteous Servant and Redeemer of the people (Is. 53:11). This message of hope extends beyond the nation of Israel, for the Jews were only chosen by God to be a light to the whole world.
In our text today, Isaiah prophesied that the Prince of Peace would sit on the throne of David, and would exercise sovereign rule, by exercising judgment and justice. In Luke 1:31-33, is a record of the angel’s statement to Mary relating to this wonderful child to whom she would give birth. As Bible scholars will testify, heavenly authority was given to Jesus (Matt. 28:18); and with this authority, He reigns, and will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and that of His kingdom, there will be no end. (Luke 1:33; 2 Sam. 7:16; Daniel 7:13-14).
With the government of the Prince of Peace, the elusion of peace to the world will become history.
