ESOCS Devotional 23 October
TEXT: MARK 1:19-34 KJV
MEMORY VERSE: “And when he was come into his own country, he taught in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works?” Matthew 13:54 KJV
As recorded in Mark 1:24, even the evil spirits acknowledged Jesus’ authority and power, as they cried, “Thou Jesus of Nazareth, art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy one of God.” Also in Mark 1:22, “And they were astonished at his doctrine; for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.” Acts 4:12 acknowledge that “Neither is there salvation in any other; for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” The Lord Himself asserted in Matthew 28:18b that “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.”
Ephesians 1:21 proclaims that the name of Jesus is far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every other name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come.
Most emphatically, in Philippians 2:9-10, St Paul had this to say of Jesus: “Wherefore God also hath exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name; that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth.”

Rejoice therefore, for we have an advocate, our GREAT HIGH PRIEST (JESUS CHRIST), whose name is undisputedly proclaimed throughout the universe.
CHALLENGES
- If at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow, both in heaven and on earth, as declared in Philippians 2:10, it means that name Jesus is the highest, both on earth and in heaven. Do you believe?
PRAYER POINT
- Lord Jesus, you overcame the death; you broke down the kingdom of Satan, to the glory of the Father. Give us grace to work and walk aright, so as to join the saints in heaven to worship thee forever. Amen.
