ESOCS Devotional 23 January 2022
TEXT: JOHN 6:41-71
MEMORY VERSE:
“I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eat of this bread, he shall live forever; and the bread, that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”John 6:51 KJV
The creation story in Genesis tells us that man was made in the image and likeness of God but the point of emphasis is that “man was made in the image of God”. This means that man is the replica of God. David took out time in Psalm 8:4-5 to examine who man is that he won the whole attention of God in verse 5: “For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels and hast crowned him with glory and honour.”
Adam lost that image that was breathed into man and from then onward, man has striven to rediscover that image in what we see as different kinds of religion today. Religion is man’s attempt to rediscover his original form of DOMINION. Eventually, man lost the ability to live forever, as the scriptures tells us in Genesis 6:3. Then the Lord said, “My Spirit will not put up with humans for such a long time, for they are only mortal flesh. In the future, their normal lifespan will be no more than 120 years” (NLT).
In Matthew 4:4, Jesus gave a very profound information, not just to the devil but to the human race: “But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God” [NLT]. This informs us that there is something superior to mere food, and that it can sustain man much more in this present life, feed him, and make him live forever.
In John 6:40, Jesus began to reintroduce the concept of everlasting life, which is called ZOE. This concept does not mean that we will not die, as many people have understood it in time past but EVERLASTING LIFE (ZOE) means:
- The very life of DOMINION that God initially designed for man in Genesis 2:6
- The quality of life that is able to give us a place with the Father when we exit this earth and we will never die again.
But we cannot be partakers of this quality of life except we eat of the bread of life who is Jesus (the living logos). Jesus is that bread that all men must eat if what they are looking for is the initial plan God had for man. Jesus is and will remain the only solution to a dying world like the one we have today. Eat of Jesus and receive the original life that God has designed for you and not a life of mediocrity and emptiness.
- Understand the nature you carry is God’s. Stay attuned to that nature.
- Lord, help me to key into the Dominion you gave Man and never to lose sight of my true identity in the name of Jesus Christ.
