ESOCS Devotional 22 December
TEXT: REVELATION 7:9-17
MEMORY VERSE: “After this I beheld; and , lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds , and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands.” Revelation 7:9 KJV
In our text today, the Father and the Son are continually praised for the salvation that has been granted to the saints. In this scene, the saints are pictured as standing before the authority and power of God who gives them eternal existence. What a joy to see the triumphant community of God’s people, out of all nations, tribes, and tongues, now worshiping before their God who radiates power and authority.
The Great Tribulation (v 14), refers to a worldwide, unprecedented time of extreme distress shortly before the end of the present world system. It is a time dominated by the anti-Christ, and will be cut short for the sake of the elects (Matt. 24:22). The Bible makes so few specific references to this period, and because of the symbolic nature of prophecy, opinions vary widely as to when and how this era of intense tribulation will come about. Some expect a literal seven-year tribulation. Some think that the Church will escape all tribulation; others believe the Church will be spared some of the tribulation; still others think that the Church will be present during the entire period of the Great Tribulation. Yet, some others believe the New Testament Church was already experiencing the Great Tribulation.
Be that as it may, the important thing is to be prepared, for, as for that day or time, no man knows (Matt. 24:36).
